September is Suicide Prevention Month. It is also the one-year anniversary of the grand opening of Transhealth’s Mental Health Suite. This project was made possible because of City of Northampton ARPA funds. In the past 12 months we are proud to have served 1490 clients, providing psychotherapy and psychiatric medication prescribing.

The critical importance of the ARPA funding we received from the City of Northampton and the care it has allowed us to provide cannot be overstated. According to the Williams Institute at the UCLA School of Law, 81% of transgender adults in the U.S. have considered suicide. According to The Trevor Project, 41% of LGBTQ youth have seriously considered attempting suicide in the past year and 56% of LGBTQ youth who wanted mental health care in the past year were not able to access it.

That’s why the gender-affirming care and support Transhealth provides is so essential to the physical and emotional well-being of trans and gender-diverse adults and youth in our region. Whether it be providing primary care, pediatric care, mental health care, or community support, we are literally saving lives one compassionate, dignified, and affirming appointment at a time.

If you or someone you know is struggling, hotline support is available through Trans Lifeline.
