Perry Cohen (he/him/his) is the Board Chair of Transhealth Northampton. He brings a wealth of experience from his many years of work in the for-profit, nonprofit, and philanthropic sectors.
Perry is the founder and executive director of The Venture Out Project, where he leads backpacking and adventure trips for members of the LGBTQ+ community. In support of Venture Out’s mission to make both outdoor and traditional education settings more affirming of trans and gender-diverse folks, Perry also works with colleges, schools, camps, and other organizations to deliver comprehensive and progressive workshops around gender diversity.
Prior to founding Venture Out, Perry was on the executive leadership team at C&S Wholesale Grocers, the largest food grocery distributor in the U.S. He served as vice president of operations and head of leadership development and talent management. In these roles, Perry was responsible for over 3,000 employees and budgets over $20 million. He currently serves as a member of the C&S Board of Advisors.
Perry has led his family’s foundation to provide philanthropic support for transgender health. In 2019, the foundation made a grant to Harvard Medical School that helped rewrite the curriculum to ensure that every student at HMS receives training that enables them to provide transgender-affirming health care. Along with that grant, Perry helped secure funding to bring The Fenway Institute’s Trans ECHO training program to Western Massachusetts to ensure that current providers are receiving the most up-to-date education around trans affirmative care for youth and adults. Perry is a member of the Working Group of GUTC (Grantmakers United for Trans Communities) at Funders for LGBTQ Issues.
Perry holds a B.A. and M.Ed. from the University of Pennsylvania and lives in Northampton, MA. In his free time, Perry is an avid skier, hiker, trail runner, and loves to hang out with his 10-year-old twins.
