Staff Bio

Mel DeSilva (They/Them/Theirs) serves as the Communications Lead for Transhealth Northampton. A seasoned communications and marketing professional, they have over fifteen years’ experience working for progressive, mission-driven programs and organizations in higher education, and in both the non-profit and for-profit sectors. They come to Transhealth from UMass Amherst where they served for over a decade as Director of Marketing, Communications, and Recruitment at the UMass Amherst University Without Walls. Prior to this, they were a non-profit executive director. Mel infuses everything they do with passion and compassion, persistence and perseverance, care and collaboration, and a healthy dose of humor.

They have witnessed firsthand the life-changing impact of Transhealth’s gender-affirming care and are honored to be part of this vitally important, groundbreaking organization. As a person who is both non-binary and neurodivergent, they are filled with gratitude to be supported in being their authentic self.

Outside of work, Mel enjoys taking graduate courses, serving on their town’s Library Board of Trustees, gardening, doing yoga, playing drums (a childhood dream), and spending time with their spouse, two adult children, and many animals of various species.
