Transhealth travelled to Washington, DC yesterday along with the nation’s leading LGBTQ rights organizations to show our support for trans youth in a pivotal civil rights case before the U.S. Supreme Court. United States v. Skrmetti challenges Tennessee’s ban on evidence-based, essential medical care for trans people under the age of eighteen. At stake are access to life-saving medications and the freedom of parents and families to make medical decisions for their own children.
We were there to bear witness and to stand in solidarity with those living in the twenty-six states that have bans on trans healthcare. Although we are fortunate to have the support of political leaders in Massachusetts, we are called on to stand up and fight back because an attack against one of us is an attack against all of us.
We were there because we believe in justice and equal protection under the law. We will fight for a nation where every child can access the healthcare they need and will not stop until every trans youth is loved and cared for as their true selves.
The freedom to be yourself is what life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness is all about. America has never achieved those goals, but we stand shoulder-to-shoulder with you to pursue them every day.
Whatever happens with this court case and in the months to come, never doubt that Transhealth will be here for you, fighting like hell for your right to get the healthcare you need and deserve.
As Transhealth CEO Joan Erwin said in the wake of the election, “we’re dug in.” We’ve got you. We’ve got us. We’ve got this.
