Latino/a/é Heritage Month starts September 15th, providing us all with an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the Trans Latino/a/é trailblazers who have helped make the freedoms we have today possible. People like Sylvia Rivera, Victoria Cruz, Lorena Borjas, and Bamby Salcedo to name a few. It’s also a time to support organizations that serve the Trans Latino/a/é community. Below is a list of Trans Latino/a/é organizations that we invite you to learn about and support if you can.
Trans Queer Pueblo is a trans immigrant-led organization in Arizona that operates a free “Liberation Clinic” for primary medical care, including hormone therapy, catering specifically to undocumented and migrant patients. They also provide a name change clinic and community closet, as well as prison support for trans immigrants.
The TransLatin@ Coalition (TLC) was founded in 2009 by a group of Transgender and Gender nonconforming and Intersex (TGI) immigrant women in Los Angeles, California, as a grassroots response to address the specific needs of TGI Latin@ immigrants who live in the United States.
El/La Para TransLatinas: We work to build a world where translatinas feel we deserve to protect, love and develop ourselves. By building this base, we support each other in protecting ourselves against violence, abuse and illness (California-based)
Arianna’s Center: Mission- Engage, empower, and LIFT UP our highly stigmatized TRANSGENDER COMMUNITY of South Florida & Puerto Rico. Placing a special emphasis on the most marginalized groups, such as the Trans Latinx Community, Undocumented Immigrants, People Living with HIV/AIDS, and those who have experienced incarceration.
Organizacion Latina de Trans en Texas: OLTT is an organization founded and led by trans Latinx immigrants working for the intersectional wellbeing of our community.
Familia: Trans Queer Liberation Movement (Familia:TQLM) works at the local and national levels to achieve the collective liberation of trans, queer, and gender nonconforming Latinxs through building community, organizing, advocacy, and education.
