Transhealth salutes Governor Healey and the Massachusetts Legislature for enacting Shield Act 2.0, and Attorney General Campbell for her unwavering leadership in the legal fight for transgender civil rights.

We are deeply grateful to Governor Healey, Lt. Governor Driscoll, Senate President Spilka, House Speaker Mariano, Secretary of Health and Human Services Mahaniah, Commissioner Goldstein, Representatives Day and Decker, Senator Friedman, Attorney General Campbell, and countless other champions in the Massachusetts Legislature and beyond for sending a powerful message to transgender people and their healthcare providers across the Commonwealth: your rights, health, privacy and dignity are protected in Massachusetts.

Shield Act 2.0 expands critical protections for people seeking and providing trans health care and reproductive care in Massachusetts. It safeguards healthcare providers who offer this care from out-of-state and federal investigations, protects private patient health information, prohibits insurance companies from penalizing providers of this legally protected care, and ensures that families of trans youth are not criminalized for supporting their child’s identity and health.

Politicians should not be involved in the healthcare decisions of patients, their providers, and their families, and in Massachusetts that message isn’t just clear: it’s the law.
