Last week, Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey announced a mandate to insurance providers to continue to cover all vaccines recommended by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH), regardless of narrower federal guidelines. Furthermore, the state is broadening access to COVID-19 and other vaccines through pharmacies while leading the formation of a Northeast regional coalition to uphold evidence-based vaccination strategies. Transhealth CEO Jo Erwin, RN, BSN (any pronouns) has issued the following statement:
“In response to recent federal restrictions and uncertainty on vaccine guidance and access, Massachusetts has taken a bold step to safeguard the health of its residents. Transhealth stands firmly behind this action, which demonstrates a resounding commitment to science and the evidence base that protects our communities – particularly those who depend on accessible health care services. We view this not merely as regulation, but as a vital reinforcement of public trust, equity, and care.
We applaud the decisive leadership shown by Governor Maura Healey, Public Health Commissioner Robbie Goldstein, Secretary of Health and Human Services Kiame Mahaniah, Senate President Karen E. Spilka, House Speaker Ronald J. Mariano, and Insurance Commissioner Michael Caljouw.
As a provider committed to serving transgender and gender-diverse individuals, Transhealth remains dedicated to supporting policy efforts that:
- Safeguard the availability and affordability of vaccinations for all individuals.
- Uphold public health decisions rooted in rigorous scientific evidence.
- Elevate health equity across all communities, including those most marginalized.
Governor Healey’s strategy underscores that when federal leadership falters, state-level action grounded in science can – and must – prevail for the well-being of the public. Transhealth affirms its continued support for policies grounded in evidence, designed to leave no one behind in the pursuit of health.”
